Hola Mr. K, tenia tiempo que no veia tus videos pero aqui estoy otra vez, tengo muchos anos de Optician, pero creeme, siempre se aprende algo...y de ti e aprendido mucho...🤓👍...
18:45 office lens, 19:50 sports, driving lens
its true progressive cant do everything perfectly. i am about to get my second progressive and this time from zeiss and my optician suggested smaller frames for index 1.67. what he told me was zeiss progression is much better and distortion wont be as much. i love my current glasses just that right eye may have increase powers. i adapted to my first almost immediately. my question is it true what my optician said that better brands of lens provide better comfort?
Without knowing much more all I'll say is, "there isn't any magic pixie dust." Zeiss makes some great lenses and you should do fine. As to "much better and distortion won't be as much." Maybe, maybe not, probably. I'm guessing your power is quite high - hence the 1.67 and the advice on using a small frame so it sounds like your optician may know what they are doing.
@@LaramyKOptical thank you kindly for your reply. 1.50-0.5 R 2.5 0.75 L still under 3.0 limit I suppose. He suggested 1.5 index if I insisted on a larger frame or if my power was higher than 3.0. his logic was to keep the overall weight of the spectacles light. Plus 1.67 index was much cheaper to consider over the 1.5 index sir
@@guardian7keys 1.5? CR-39 or Trivex? Sounds like maybe things are bit backwards? Unless you are talking about the dinner plate special sized frames weight differences will be negligible. Trivex is great. CR-39 is cheap but thick. 1.67 is OK for powers like yours but a tad of overkill.
@@LaramyKOptical I am not sure if the plastic is c39 or trivex sir. 1.67 was the thickest in the Zeiss light progressive 2 series. Its all really confusing 😭 I am really looking for an all rounder progressive. My optician has suggested a reading or computer pair. But asked to try the zeiss first if it fits for me day to day activities.
@@guardian7keys Even with the best progressive possible an additional pair of single vision for computer distance is a wonderful thing. The rest sounds like a misunderstanding - I'm not sure how they could possibly know how thick the lens might be when finished (unless they are surfacing and finishing it there) and 1.67 should be thinner than any 1.5 not thicker - that is the entire point of a higher index lens.
8:40 - focus on shortest computer distance - SINGLE VISION for minimum peripheral distortion.
Well yeah of course - but - this video is about office progressive lenses not single vision lenses.
@@LaramyKOptical no this comment was just for my personal reference nothing else. Excellent video. My intermediate vision clarity both in progressive and bifocal is poor. Therefore now I have to choose between office lens and single vision. Slightly difficult call for me to finalize for home computer use.
Think you need to switch the 10% with the 50%.
;-)
Hi sir I'm from India could u share me ur playlist of how fit the lens in different type of frames such as semi rimless, full frame in manually?
opticianworks.com/edge/
This is still not understood by optical sales teams(many) and properly communicated to Consumers.. Also pitch high index materials for standard Rx. And charge high pice. Thanks for bringing the fact to light.
doesnt seem like its easy or straightforward to purchase a single pair of lenses from the website. but im interested in trying them. i sometimes get pain behind my eyes when im working and driving at night. i think my left eye gets it worse because im on the left driver side (USA) and i think the headlights of oncoming traffic hit my left eye a bit more intensely. its like a pressure behind my eyes, sometimes it hurts or causes a headache ;(

#4 should be a protocol for eyeglass sellers or doctors to tell their patients/customers.
What is the name of the handy tool? For marking the holes for the nose pads.
McCray Optical sells the kits and the tool is their own creation - I'm not sure it has a specific name - McCray-a-holer?
Maybe the nose pad jig🕺🕺. Thanks
@@themanimal01 Do-do-do-doing the nosepad jig. Cha-cha-cha.
I called McCray and was unable to source the jig/fixture. The customer service representative could not tell me exactly what it was called."Not looking to reinvent the wheel if it already exists ."😅 Would like to source the fixture any suggestions?
@@themanimal01 drop me an email through the OpticianWorks website and I'll connect you with Albert the inventor.
😅😂 I was about to say!
If you block like that. Will you set the OC height on the edger machine, sir?
I would have to say, no. I doubt you can manually decenter for PD and then expect the edger to take care of an OC height. I guess it could work but you would have to experiment with the edger. The basics shown in the video assume no OC height = 1/2 the B. And OC heights are for higher powers and should be kept to around 0 - 5mm. If you need much more you have the wrong frame.
great training , thanks dr
Hi - thank you for this refresher. As an Optom, I use resultant prism all the time. It's a shame that most DOs don't understand the notation. My question has to do with how to add two resultant prisms together. Ditto subtraction. Say I have RE 2.36@334 and wish to add 1.09@ 321 to it, is there a calculation that does it simply please? Thank you.
Here is a better video: ua-cam.com/video/hZyDGaDxhfw/v-deo.htmlsi=TH4Iw-XIgukGQJ9F
I'm not sure it answers your question. If not it might at least point you in the right direction for solving it yourself. Those two videos are my sum total of knowledge on the subject. John
If you generate power in this way 🙄 i think u will lose your lens in case of bifocals and progressive lenses as those transpositions wrong 😢
I use the word "conceptual" about twenty times in that video! I say, "With the introduction of free form this all became just a concept or theory."
Thank you so much❤
On the practical exam practice test it’s asking for intermediate and near. I’ve always used 40 for near and infinity for distance what is intermediate? I can’t get any question right 😢
The pupilometer dial has 30,35,40,50,65,100,200 infinity. So I'd say 65 would be a likely intermediate. We never used the dial just intermediate -2 and near -4. Wish I could be more help. Must be a practice exam for prep? Answer it until you get it right and then you'll know?
Hi!! This is unrelated to this video but I was wondering if you could do a video on how to fix 180 degree temples on children’s glasses. I have a pair and I’ve never worked on something like this, it looks like it can be fixed but I’m having a hard time. Am I missing a tool? Am I going about it wrong? It’s a screw that’s missing please help
Sorry but I don't have any experience with them I did find this: ua-cam.com/video/hrjctJATOAo/v-deo.html
@@LaramyKOpticalthank you for the reply! This actually helps a bit now I know that piece can come out fully.
If it helps for prism, the way I understand it is; PT PD is Right eye or (OD) 31mm and it was received at 33mm, that 31-33= 2mm BO (base out) because the received PD is larger than the PT PD. In the OD the prescription is a minus lens (-) when the RX is minus we change the base to the opposite direction, in this case meaning BI. If the RX was in a plus lens (+), then we keep the same base direction meaning that our base would stay as BO (base out). Hope this helps! Great videos, I am refreshing my memory for my BOARDS!
Degrees = % of cylinder power 030 = 25% 045 = 50% 060 = 75% 090 = 100%
The % rule is covered in another video after this one - take things in steps. Prentice's Rule is for 0-180 and 90.
Guys if it helps, the way I think about how to know what type of prism it is: PT PD is at 67 and Glasses were made at 60, so we know that is BI because the glasses came with a smaller PD than the one, they were supposed to have. Then I looked at my prescription in the eye that am I working on. If is a (+) plus lens, then the prism stays in the same direction BI. If is a (-) minus lens, then the prim is the opposite, in this case BO. Hope this helps! The videos are great and very helpful now that I am getting ready for my BOARDS and needed a refresher.
I'm not really sure how that approach is any easier/simpler than learning the rules and drawing things out - BUT - heck if it works for you keep doing it.

Hi, Thank you for all the fantastic videos you share with us. I have never used the trivex , has any one have a good experience? Will you recommend?
Trivex is WONDERFUL! Great optics, lightweight, great for drill mounts. It is what I use in all my glasses, family glasses, friends glasses. If you have a choice between Trivex and poly always go with Trivex. See the other videos about material choices.
Thank you so much for your videos. I am now on my second progressive after telling my optician I need an office lens. I've been in tears because my vision is so bothersome with the lenses they keep putting me in. Age 60, -3.00 and -4.00 with +2.25 add plus astigmatism. I work intensely switching between multiple computer monitors over 8 hours a day. Your videos have helped me understand why I'm so unhappy. Thank you for your help!
You are very welcome. Don't overlook the possibility of a single-vision intermediate. Depending on your work situation it might work well and save you. $$$$$.
@@LaramyKOptical Thank you! I just ordered an intermediate SV lens! I'm considering a separate SV lens for driving and one for reading. The distortion is so annoying!
speaking of minimum seg height (18), i also require that the patient has at least 9 mm from the fitting cross / center to the top of the frame for distance viewing (10 or more is ideal, 9 still ok in my experience). whether or not the frame has nosepads makes a huge difference in deciding if these factors will cause me to reject the frame, due to adjustability or lack thereof. NB (LDO)
Been wearing progressives for about 2 months -- took a few weeks to get used to them. I do a lot of work on my computer and my neck is absolutely killing me (from the constant moving my head to focus on different parts of the screen). I'm going back to dedicated reader glasses for working, and will keep the progressives when doing anything else (watching TV, being outside, driving, etc).
I hate always being right. ;-) You'll love having that dedicated computer pair!
hi! lens with coat like anti rad and transition can be resize?
sure
Hi, I am an optician from pakistan. I have a question that a person who have a prescription that, L eye 3 prism @90, and 3 prism @ 180. What is that mean, with DP os is +5.50/+1.00 80
Look for the videos on Resultant Prism. There are different ways of writing prism and you need to know how to read them.

Thank you for taking the concepts and simplifying them. I have been watching your videos for a year and learned how to do my optician job better and prepared for the ABO. You are a gem and I really enjoyed the process and have learned sooo much!!!
Thank you.
What is the outside temperature in this demonstration. As you know, temps have a lot to do with the efficacy of photochromic activations as well as exposure to sun
If I recall correctly it would all have been in the 70's inside and out. I'm literally sitting here waiting for a sunny day to shoot a new video on IOT's latest version of NeoChrome. So please stand by.
How is each of +1.50, -0.50, X 43, related to which point of the graph?
Hi Mr John Would you be doing a video sharing the differences or transition gen 8 vs xtractive gen 8 Thank you Just know the xtractive is much darker.
No on Transitions but I'm working on a new video for IOT's NeoCrome series right now. Literally waiting on a sunny morning to wrap it up. Will do both their regular and new dark too. Please stand by.
Google searches show, the entire eyecare industry in the US, if not the world, cannot clearly, professionally interpret the eyeglass prescription rules. It's so confusing, inconsistent, even contradictory. While this vid is exceptional in explaining astigmatism using models, it didn't even touch how this is related to the Cylinder values on a prescription, why it's positive or negative...
I dont say "bent", I say adjusted or shaped. They get worried about the idea you bent their new glasses!
I work at Walmart in the vision department, and let me tell you, it is hard as heck to sell a second pair of anything there. We even barely sell accessories. I guess because we no longer have a doctor. How can we up our sales and/or sell a second pair as well as accessories?
Why do we not need to divide the difference by 2 with an OC error?
Finally I got the video in which the lens manufacturing process is clearly shows that how power added in glasses ..
I made the mistake of buying a softer type of silicon, hypoallergenic nose pad, super soft and filled with air instead of the "regular" stock-like nose pads frames come with and never charging patients for them. Those things cost like $80+ for a pack of 25. That's 25 pairs of pads, not 25 total, so 50 pads. Everyone loved them and asked for them. Air-Active I think they're called that. I think I spent $500 a month for nose pads. Don't judge me. I'm an idiot.
Who's here in July of 2024?! Well, I am! I love it!
Myopia - Large and Long Hyperopia- Small and Short That's why most babies are hyperopic. I think. Idk. I'm studying for my CTO, and I've had like 1,000 pages of info in the past 2 weeks, and now all I can think of is "our eyes are too complicated. I don't wanna see you anymore." Don't even get me started on Glaucoma.
On the finer and polisher what is that tube on the black box going to the baffles? Does that serve a certain purpose?
Air supply for the tool chuck.
This profession is corrupt. A pair of glasses charging >$700 is ridiculous.
